Curly Willow Topiary Trunks
are graded and priced by size, length and with Standard (straight) or Crowned (forked) characteristics. This grading enables you to select the best trunks for your needs.
Size: This is the diameter (in inches) at the cut base of the trunk. These sizes can run from 1 inch to 8 or more inches depending on your
requirements. Since most applications do not require precise sizing, trunks are sold in a size "range" rather than a specific diameter as it is more economical due to less labor costs. When necessary
for production work, closer size ranges are available for an additional labor charge per trunk, depending on the amount of grading required. The common ranges for our 2 to 8 inch sizes carry a +/-
differential of 1/2 inch, with the 2 inch size range being ideal for most retail applications. For instance, a 2 inch "range" would be from 1.50 inches to 2.50 inches, a 3 inch range would be from
2.50 to 3.50 inches.
Length:
Measured in feet from base cut to tip of trunk, usually an average of 5 to 7 feet for Standards and 7 to 9 feet for Crowned trunks. You can specify approximate lengths if you would like them to be somewhat longer or shorter
*.
Characteristics: This is how the top of each trunk will look, either as a single cut off stem (Standard), or as a forked to multi-stem top (Crown).
Standard
trunks have a single top cut and are used for a variety of applications from silk trees to decorative fencing, shade structures or simply as unusual and artistic poles for flags and other indoor or outdoor garden uses.
Crowned
trunks are a higher end product with 2 to 6 forked tips. These have been specifically grown, pruned and groomed to produce a superior trunk for silk tree production that gives each finished tree a more natural appearance.
Open Run:
This is a term we use for orders that include an unspecified (usually 50% or better crowns) mixture of both Standard and Crowned trunks in the same size range. Pricing on open run orders is the average combined price of both standard and crowned prices of the same grade.
*
Although many Standard trunks can exceed 8 to 10 feet, Crowned trunks are grown to be taller than most Standards and may reflect a smaller base diameter range if cut shorter than the intended height of 7 to 9 feet. For instance, an 8 foot tall Crowned trunk with a 2 inch base range that is cut to 5 feet may only be 1.125 inches at the base due to the new requested cut length. Because this cut is at the request of the customer, these Crowned trunks would still be priced as part of their original 2 inch range.
